Concept & Costumes

Shortly before christmas I finally got the permission to publish work I've done more than a year ago for Frogster Online Gaming. I did countless sketches and drawings, here is a selection put together in my gallery over at Behance - just click here:

  3. Fantastic drawings and I love the varied costumes and armor! Where do you find your inspiration to do different types of armor? I feel like I hardly find any good armor reference online!

  6. Excellent, clean drawings with fluid movement and a lot of character.

Could I ask what your process is? Are you given a brief and the freedom to create from there, or is it a more complex design process of character thumbs -> multiple simpler designs to establish detail patterns, etc -> these drawings? How long, on average, did each one take?

  7. Thanks everybody, you're too kind! =) Really appreciate your comments.

@ Stacy: I have a huge archive of armory books and I try to use Google Image Search not too much (because everyone else is using it, too). In addition to that, I'm doing re-enactment since about a decade by now, I see and feel how armor looks like on the body, how it's used and worn, etc. It's a great benefit to see how it's like in "reality" and not just on paper. Of course, the designs I had to do for this project were over the top and unrealistic at many points, but it's always good to have a basic background knowledge of armory.

@ Sam: I was lucky that I had total freedom in this case. They gave me some short details such as "Druid Elf, Nature, Feathers" and the rest was up to me. I did a few small scribbles and silhouettes to give them an idea, they chose and I finalized it. It was surprisingly fast! With some of the races, of course, it took longer to figure out the look of the culture. But overall, I nailed it down quite fast and they were very open to ideas and suggestions. On average, it took me about 6 hours to complete a concept like this.

  8. Amazing! I was describing your work to someone a while ago, and said: "she can draw like the devil himself." Now I'm not so sure... the devil's got nothing on you :).

  9. @ Craig: The Devil went down to Cork recently and we had a draw-off, now I have no idea what to do with his soul :(
