Scorch

Chris and Craig really brought their A game with their posts, so I wanted to share this new piece with you guys. I finished this piece up a few days ago while in between a few projects and waiting for art orders to be sent for some new cards. I've been wanting to do some new, kick ass samples to send over to Blizzard and this is one of the next batch I'll be mailing over to try and snag some work for their TCG. Based off of the Tier 11 Mage Armor set, I decided to illustrate one of the spell abilities a fire spec mage has, Scorch.

  1. I said this before on FB, but that came out great! The internal burn on the hand is really nicely done, and plays well off the background greens. Keep hittin' Blizzard with work like this and they'll definitely pick you up :).

  3. I really like the way you create those effects, the don't look over the top and still give the character awesomeness :) Yes, keep hitting them with your art, persistence pays off in the end. Did you try to get in their WoW Magazine?

  4. Thanks, Eva! I haven't, I only have one contact address there and I think it's a general art submission kind of thing for their TCG.

  5. As a WoW player of a mage for 7 years, just a tiny little aside of a nerdy comment;

    A Frost Mage (that has a Water Elemental, no other specialization can summon one) never uses Scorch :p

    I'm surprised the AD didn't notice that, perhaps he's not a WoW player :P

    Absolutely gorgeous image though, *love* gnomes!

  6. Jennifer- Nothing wrong with a tiny nerd comment ;) I myself am a WoW player and I've seen plenty of Mages with a water elemental casting fire spells, dual spec perhaps? I do appreciate the feedback though and completely understand the accuracy factor when it comes to images for such games considering the players of TCG are most likely WoW players as well :)
