Character step-by-step

Another private commission completed - slowly but surely the list is being worked off! This time I saved a few steps and put an animation together. I have a few different ways of creating a character - here for example it shows a pencil drawing which is being colored digitally afterwards.

I was hoping to have the time to write up a more elaborate description for each step, what I was doing and thinking. But time is a bitch and this will have to wait for another while.
Hope you like it! =) It might take a little while to fully load:

  1. Awesome commission, Eva! :) I really dig the gif format showing the progression. It turned out to be a really nice piece! I especially like the outfit designs, how much info did the person commissioning you for this give you? Or did you have a lot of freedom?

  2. Thanks Eric! Yeah, the gif format is so retro ;D It was a great commission, my client was asking to get her and her boyfriend's character portrayed so it was a very personal request and people have a particular image in mind when it comes to that. But despite the main attributes, like what kind of weapon or hairstyle, colour, etc) and a brief story about the characters, she gave me a lot of freedom to create my own vision of the costumes and features.

  3. Thanks for sharing that process Eva! Your character designs are to die for- especially love the girl. Private commissions can sometimes be difficult- but I can tell you enjoyed this one a lot. =)

  6. Seeing your lines makes me want to go practice mine until my pencil is a stub. This came out great. I only wish I could slow it down and really take in each step a little more. So much to see :)
