Life Drawing

First of all, big sorry for the fact that I haven't been contributing much to the Shadowcore blog lately. I was working on a lot of NDA stuff and wasn't able to show much. When I was not working, I was not drawing much - in fact, I was happy to not draw at all! I went outdoors, met friends and stayed off of distracting factors from everyday life as much as possible. Only to find out that taking time off was exactly what inspired me most and made me want to draw for myself again.

For about six weeks now I'm going to a weekly life drawing class in Cork. And they are brilliant! Not only do they have great models of all body types, they also play music, serve free tea and cake and the company you get for the evening is super creative and inspiring. I can only recommend it to everyone: Go and look if there's a life drawing class somewhere near you. It makes such a difference and is THE best way to study human anatomy and posings. No Google image search or online figure drawing archive can beat that.

Theors - Magic the Gathering

Tyler has posted some of his work for Theros, the newest set for Magic the Gathering, so I figured it was about time I did the same. Theors is the first set of Magic that I have worked on and I got to create two cards for the set. The Catoblepas was based on design work for the set, but for the Hippocamp I got to design and illustrate it. Here is how they turned out...

I was invited to my first Magic prerelease event over the weekend which allowed me to get my hands on my cards! After not playing Magic for 17 years it was great to reconnect with the players and the game. Here are how the cards turned out...

The funny thing about Dawnstrike is that it was one of the very first cards I ever painted for MtG. I guess they finally ended up using it, which is great!  I did it along with the card Sneak Attack (below) which was only available in a promo pack.
