D&D Mighty Mugg

Halfling Rogue

Hey guys, just wanted to share in case some of you haven't seen it already that my Mighty Mugg has been featured over at Jon Schindehette's ArtOrder blog. Jon asked me to talk about my process a bit and some of my experiences while working on it. I'm pretty happy with the end result but I won't lie, there were some frustrations along the way. Head over and check it out if you get a chance! :)

  1. That looked like it was a lot of fun to paint and construct, the little cloak came out great!

    1. Thanks, Craig! Yeah it was a lot of fun. I wish I had more time in my work schedule to paint up another one, but it'll have to wait I suppose.

  2. I FEEL YOUR PAIN!

I made custom wedding cake toppers out of Mighty Muggs for my wedding in 2010. (Pic link below) I had to mod an Asajj Ventress Mighty Mugg for my figure, since that was the Mugg with the skirt bottom instead of legs. I gessoed over her and then painted; this resulted in a less-than-ideal texture, as opposed to the blank white Mugg I straight painted on for the groom. Not to mention I painted mine without disassembling the figures first...not too smart in hindsight, but they articulate and look just fine. Also, I did not draw the lines on first, just eyeballed everything from my template. Not too smart in hindsight, either...but it didn't really end up being a problem except for the eyes.

I am most comfortable with a graphic style, but I love how your realistic painting looks on the Mugg!! Now that's a figurine I'd love to see on my shelf!!

(My groom Mugg is currently holding the hammer of Thor from the Thor Mugg...booyah)
